Company Background
AquaSeed was established in 1988 as a producer of superior genetic seedstock
in the international aquaculture industry. It is one of the few companies in the world
that specialize in a wide variety of seedstocks with documented superior growth rates.
AquaSeed's success in applying state-of-the-art biotechnology and genetics has
made it a leader in aqua-genetics and Pacific salmon breeding.
In 1991 AquaSeed acquired the Domsea® coho broodstock from Campbell Soup Company and its family bred Pacific salmon strain. Since then AquaSeed has become an international leader in supplying genetically superior Pacific salmon seedstocks such as its Domsea® coho and Donaldson steelhead. The Domsea coho and steelhead strains are the world's highest selling in their categories, with worldwide sales exceeding 10 million eyed eggs per year. Domsea History
Union Carbide founded Domsea Farms, Inc. in 1969. Manager Jon Lindbergh
reared pan-sized coho at this saltwater net pen facility in Manchester,
Washington. Later, Domsea added a selective breeding facility in Gorst,
Washington. Campbell Soup acquired Domsea in 1979 and sold the company
to Global Aqua, a Norwegian consortium, in 1988. Campbell retained the
broodstock and genetics program, and still raises pan-sized coho in the
Blind Canyon Hatchery in Idaho. Domsea's broodstock has recently been
transferred to the Scattercreek Hatchery, near Rochester, Washington.
AquaSeed acquired the corporate name, Domsea Broodstock, Incorporated in 1991.
